Job Description/ Responsibilities
- Maintain shelter operation during shift.
- Immediately report incidents of concern to the Shelter Director.
- Assist clients with law enforcement and medical systems.
- Provide clients with emotional support, transportation, and assistance with related helping agencies.
- Provide client screening, client orientation, explaining rules and schedules of the agency. Ensure compliance with these procedures.
- Maintain weekly client records and assure confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director.
Supervision Received
The Shelter Advocate reports to and receives direction from the Shelter Director. S/he is responsible for sharing information with the Shelter Director and other Advocates in a timely manner and maintaining open and frequent interchanges of information as deemed necessary by events occurring within the shelter’s programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have reliable transportation.
Demonstrate an interest and verifiable experience in working with individuals that have experienced challenges related directly to domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
An associate degree in the human service field and two years experience of working in a related area or an equivalent amount of education and experience will be accepted at the discretion of the Executive Director and Board of Directors. ( PLEASE NO PHONE CALLS )
Work schedule is not set. Possible schedules consist of being scheduled on Evening shift, 5pm-10pm Monday through Friday, Third shift 10pm-8am on Fridays and weekend shifts are 12 hours from 8AM to 8PM or from 8PM-8AM. Holidays are mandatory, no exceptions.
